Interfering waves shape a turning sculpture of liquid glass.

Behind the study

Two travelling waves cross on a spherical surface. Their combined amplitude pushes the surface outward: constructive interference builds mountains, while cancellation lets them recede. Light bends through the displaced volume and reflects from its folds. Warm-white studio lights reveal the glass. Gently curved wavefronts rise behind the sculpture, bending and separating as they pass through the glass. A single red wavefront sweeps upward with them, fading out above before the next arrives below. The refraction control moves from a clear, watery lens toward denser glass. Cartesian wave directions keep the surface continuous across the poles.
